GUTHRIE CENTER, IA — Panorama’s Mary Fett finished 10th overall in the girls race at a Class 1A State Qualifier Oct. 20, earning a spot in Friday’s state meet. Fett will run at 10:30 a.m. at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge.
Fett finished in 21 minutes, 56 seconds to grab the last individual advancing spot. Teammate Avery Bahrenfuss was 59th in 28:16.
The overall win went to MacKenzie Harper of Earlham in 20:02, with Earlham winning the team race with 28 points.
“Mary ran a tremendously tough race; she was very aggressive,” Panther head coach Greg Thompson said. “Mary doubted herself all season, but she competed very hard each and every race. We anticipate her doing that again on Friday and fully expect her to have her best race of the season. We will have a sendoff for her as we drive through Panora at about 7:45 am.”
The two boys who run for the Panthers were also in action. Zach Hayden crossed 67th in 22:57.7, with Gryffin Burchfield 70th in 23:22.3.
Caden Keller of IKM-Manning was the overall titleist at 16:29. Host AC/GC won the boys crown with a score of 35.
“All four of our kids ran a great race.,” Thompson said. “We competed on the exact same course about four weeks ago. Gryffin ran 3 minutes, 12 seconds faster, Zach was 1 minute, 8 seconds faster and Mary improved by 1 minute, 6 seconds while Avery Bahrenfuss was 10 seconds better.”
