Panthers surge past host Chargers

GUTHRIE CENTER — Panorama trailed for approximately only a few seconds Friday as the Panther offense dominated play in grounding host AC/GC, 42-8, in their Class 1A District 8 contest.

Luke South gave Panorama (4-4, 1-3) a 7-0 lead with a four-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, with Gracen Welberg booting the PAT.

The Chargers (5-3, 2-2) seized a brief 8-7 edge when Gabe Rowley scored on a 10-yard run, with the hosts converting the two-point conversion.

Zach Rizzuti ensured the Panther deficit would as short as possible by returning the following kickoff 89 yards for a TD and a 13-7 Panorama lead.

Trey Cobb’s five-yard dive and a South two-point conversion run helped the visitors enter the intermission with a 21-8 advantage.

Three Panther TDs, a Welberg PAT and a Cobb two-point conversion doubled Panorama’s score, leaving the score at 42-8 after three frames, where it remained.

Cobb scored on a 40-yard run in the third frame, his score surrounding touchdown receptions by Welberg of 11 yards and three yards, with South tossing both TDs.

South finished 8-of-17 for 93 yards and two TDs passing. Welberg had two receptions for two TDs, with Allias Stahl pulling in four passes for 46 yards and Rizzuti two for 33 yards.

Cobb (16-137, 2 TDs) and South (17-105, 1 TD) led the Panther ground attack, with Rizzuti (1-12), Garret Fox (2-6), Wyatt Appleseth (4-6), Dominic Walker (1-2) and Wyatt Clark (1-0) also had carries for the guests.

AC/GC finished with 181 yards rushing on 49 yards while trying only three passes, all of which fell incomplete.

Cobb, Fox and Trent Hambleton each recovered a fumble for the Panthers, with Cobb making 13 tackles, Hambleton seven and Welberg 6.5.

Panorama will conclude their season Friday with a trip to Stuart to face West Central Valley (1-7, 0-4). WCV fell to Clarinda, 41-6, in Week 8.
