PAWS hosts final meet of regular season

The Perry Area Winter Swim team was in action for the final time during their regular season Feb. 19 when they hosted a triangular with Boone and Grinnell at the McCreary Community Building pool.

Perry found their way to numerous victories, with 19 girls and 19 boys each experiencing at least one first place finish, whether in an individual event or as a member of a winning relay.

Jaylene Karolus (15-18) and Zander Kenyon (15-18) had five wins for the PAWS girls and boys, respectively.

Winning four times for the girls unit were Zoe Hibbert and Addison Huntington (both 15-18), and Aleah Karolus and Meranda Gruber (both 11-12).

Madeline McDevitt (13-14) posted three wins, with Lilly Riley (15-18), Olivia Mahaffey (13-14), Meredith Arganbright and Rylee Robson (both 11-12) and Kilee Hughes (9-10) all recording two wins apiece.

Others tasting victory for Perry included Ava Jablonski (15-18), Allison Drake and Ilana Baumert (both 13-14), Lillian Lucht, Kendee Cromwell, Jessa Hellman and Isabella Stein (all 9-10) and Trinity Stonehocker (8U).

Garrett Winey (15-18) and Dysen Deardorff (9-10) both had four wins for the Perry boys, with Isaac Winey and Ty Thomas (both 13-14), Deacan Crawley and Renaud Deardorff (both 9-10) and Ray Hughes (8U) all tallying three victories each.

Double wins were notched by Sam Ridnour (15-18), Collin Stringham (13-14), Boomer Deardorff (11-12) and Aiden Hibbert (9-10), with Connor Larsen (15-18), Diego Diaz-Cardenas (13-14), Bryan Anderson, Andrew Baumert and Adrian Quijas (both 11-12) and Eli McCarty and Meyer Chance (both 9-10) all one-time winners.

The next action for PAWS will be at the state swim meet, which will be held March 12 at the Wellmark YMCA in Des Moines.
