ST. PAUL, MN. — The Perry Area Winter Swim team sent six members to the Midwest Regional Meet last weekend. They joined with swimmers from LeMars, Denison and Clarinda to compete as the “Blue Fins” at the Leonard Center on the University of Minnesota campus.
Coach Haley Vaughn competed in the girls 15-18 age group, with Devon Archer competing in the same age grouping for the boys. Chase (14 years old) and Riese (12) Archer were also in action, as was Sarah Vaughn (13) and Sophia McDevitt (9).
As relay members, Haley Vaughn was fifth in the 18U 400 medley and ninth in the 18U 200 medley while Devon Archer was eighth in the 18U 200 medley and 11th in the 15-18 freestyle. Chase Archer was ninth in both the 18U free and in the 14U 200 free, with Riese Archer fifth in the 14U 400 free. Sarah Vaughn helped the 14U 200 medley finish 16th and the 14U 200 free 17th while McDevitt was 16th in the 9-10 free and 17th in the 9-10 medley.
In individual events, Haley Vaughn was 18th in the 15-18 100 butterfly, 19th in the 200 individual medley, 20th in the 15-18 breaststroke, 33rd in the 15-18 50 free and 44th in the 15-18 100 free.
Devon Archer placed 43rd in the 15-18 100 free and 48th in the 15-18 50 free while younger brother Chase was 45th in the 13-14 50 free.
McDevitt was the busiest of the PAWS members, competing in seven individual events along with two relays. She swam in the 9-10 bracket in the 200 free (24th), 100 backstroke (29th), 50 backstroke (38th), 100 free (42nd), 100 individual medley (46th), the 50 butterfly (52nd) and the 100 breaststroke (52nd).
Over 400 swimmers competed in the event, with the sextet representing the largest contingent Perry has sent to the regional meet.
