Holly Moltsch, left, Perry Middle School art teacher, received a certificate of appreciation from Perry Lions Club contest chair Lou Hoger Wednesday in gratitude for Moltsch's continued involvement with the Lions Club annual Peace Poster Contest. This year Moltsch's sixth graders produced 42 posters for the contest, themed, "Share Peace."

Winners were announced Wednesday of the Perry Lions Club annual Peace Poster Contest, this year themed “Share Peace.” The contest, for youngsters age 11 to 13, is sponsored by Lions International.

Perry Middle School art teacher Holly Motsch coordinated the event with her sixth graders, who together produced 42 posters. Judging was led by Lions Club contest chair Lou Hoger, with assistance from a 12-person committee composed of Lions Club members and community figures.

The winning poster in the 2015 contest was made by Jaylene Karolus of Perry. Her poster now proceeds to the Lions District Convention. If she wins at that level, she will $50 in prize winnings, and her entry will move on to the state-level Lions Club contest.

Karolus was treated, along with the contest’s second- and third-place winners, their parents and Motsch, to dinner at the Hotel Pattee. At the dinner, Karolus was presented with a $25 check. Second-place winner Cassidy Hibbert was awarded $15, and third-place winner Viviana Escalante received $10.

This is Motsch’s third year coordinating the Lions Club contest through the Perry Middle School, and she said she is already looking forward to next fall’s contest.

“This is an extremely valuable way for young people to see that art can be much more than merely putting forms and color on paper,” Motsch said. “It’s an opportunity to share their hopes and dreams for a more peaceful world.”
