PELLA — Monday’s non-conference win was a treat for the Dutch, as host Pella scored an 11-3 win over Perry in the final regular season game for both baseball teams.

Perry (0-23) had jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Pella (11-22) scored three times in their first at-bat to take an edge. A run in the second and four more in the third pushed Pella into an 8-2 lead.

Each team plated a single run in the fifth inning, with the Dutch erasing any remaining doubts as to the eventual victor with a pair of tallies in the sixth.

Keghan West started and threw 2-1/3 frames for the Bluejays, with Kato Dougan pitching the final 3-2/3. West allowed eight runs on five hits and Dougan three runs (two earned) on three hits. The duo had two strikeouts apiece, with West issuing five walks and Dougan three.

Dougan had three singles to pace the Perry offense, with Avery Meister driving in two runs with a double. West and Connor Kenyon each had base hits, with both joining Dougan in stealing a base. Kaleb Olejniczak, Quinn Helmers and Alex Morales each drew walks, with Dougan, West and Olejniczak each scoring once.

Ryan Mace went five innings for Pella, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out 10. Clayton Cummings pitched an inning, as did Kamden Lambert, who struck out one.

Lambert had a double and drove in two runs, as did River Baker and Nick Grandia, with Lambert swiping a pair of bags.

Perry will play host 10th-ranked and host Ballard (23-7) in Friday’s second game at Night Hawk Field in Slater. Humboldt (14-8) will face Webster City (15-7) in the 5 p.m. game, with the Bluejay vs. Bomber contest to follow. The winners will square off against each other, in Ballard, at 7 p.m. Monday.
