Perry defensive tackle Tyler Soll pulls down Boone's Kaden Sherrard as Perry teammates Mark Campos (28) and Adan Medina (rear) close in last Friday in Boone.

LAST YEAR — Carroll more than doubled Perry’s offensive output in scoring a 43-10 win at Dewey Field. The Tigers passed for 189 yards and two touchdowns, rushed 32 times for 169 yards and returned a Bluejay interception for a score.
Perry connected on only 5-of-21 passes fro 48 yards while gaining 107 yards on 45 carries, an average of just 2.4 yards per rush. Ivan Garcia hit a 30-yard field goal in the loss.
Among returning players from the game, Carroll’s Matt Pauk had 56 yards and a TD on 14 rushes while making eight tackles, with Perry’s Joe Olvera tallying 9.5 stops while Kade VanKirk and Jacob Thompson had 6.5 and 5.5 denials, respectively.

ABOUT THE TIGERS — Carroll topped rival Kuemper Catholic, 24-7, in their season opener before suffering a 36-0 loss to Harlan and a 35-26 setback to Webster City. All three games were in Carroll, with their 42-14 win over Humboldt last week on the road.
Junior quarterback Kolby Molinsky is 31-67-5 for 454 yards and four TDs, with Peter Stevens (7-120, 3 TDs), Dayton Ross (8-113) and Pauk (9-70) his primary targets.
The Tigers have rushed for 1,025 yards on 170 carries, a clip of just over six yards per haul, and have scored nine times on the ground.
Pauk (90-612, 4 TDs) is by far the most dangerous weapon, with Ross (30-169, 1 TD) and Molinsky (30-81, 4 TDs) also heavily involved.
Cole Kautzky leads the defense with 34 tackles (six for loss), with Pauk adding 24 stops. Small but elusive nose guard Sam Kastle (5-5, 170) has 11 tackles, but six are for loss, including two sacks.

ABOUT THE BLUEJAYS — ADM slipped past host Perry, 14-13, in week one, with shutout losses at North Polk (24-0) and to visiting Gilbert (44-0) following. Perry fell to host Boone, 27-10, last Friday.
Ryan Rathje is a respectable 46-77-4 passing. He has one touchdown but has had little time to throw, resulting in short passes and a total of 343 yards.
Taviar Lucas is far and away the leading receiver for the Jays, both in receptions (24) and yards (195). He has TD catches of 14 yards from Rathje and of 50 on Wyatt Halling’s only toss of the season.
Jacob Thompson (7-80), Marcus Meri (5-57) and Eli Saemisch (5-23) lead the rest of the pack.
Perry’s 130 rushing yards on 81 carries is lowest in 3A. Saemisch (36-101) is the top gainer, with Gage Welch (14-68) and Lucas (9-13) seeing limited action.
Mark Campos (29), Solomon Pierce (25.5), Kade VanKirk (19.5), Adan Medina (19) and Joe Olvera (18) are the top five tacklers for the defense.

  1. If Parker Stevens has 10 catches, Perry will win. Guaranteed! This kid is a baller, and Solomon Pierce is definitely a gamer. Use him at tight end. A little play action. Let Parker go deep. All you have to do is throw it up high to Solomon. He will go up and catch it over any defender. He can jump. Just a little tip, coach.

  2. I totally agree with Noel. I think the players aren’t being maximized to their true abilities. Throw the ball more. It’s the coaches’ fault. You can tell when you watch the games the coaches look confused.
