Six-year-old Adrian Quijas of Perry had his first taste of high culture recently when he was featured in a Von Maur Mothers Day print and online advertisement.

Adrian is the son of Jesse Quijas and Amanda Martin of Perry.

“Mom was always told me he should be a model,” Martin said in describing the first baby steps in her son’s commercial career, “so she sent his picture to the Peak Agency in Des Moines.”

The agency later called and asked whether Adrian could come in for an interview.

“I guess they liked what they saw,” Martin said, “and now he is represented by agent Steve Myers.”

With his winning smile, Adrian has further opportunities awaiting in modeling, his mother said. She said the kindergartener at the Perry Elementary School also likes to sing and dance, and he is a tumbler in Showtime Studio’s spring recital and plays little league for the Reds.

Adrian was born in Des Moines, the youngest of five children. His mother, a CNA at the Perry KLutheran Home, is native to the Perry area, and his father, a salesman for Wiese Industries in Perry, was born and raised in Los Angeles, Calif.
