Perry made easy work of host Bondurant-Farrar, 11-0, in five innings Wednesday in a battle matching the only two teams in Iowa that use the nickname "Bluejays."

BONDURANT — Only two of over 260 high schools in Iowa use the nickname “Bluejays” and they met Wednesday for the first of two scheduled Raccoon River Conference baseball battles.

Perry might just have had a little revenge on their minds, as Bondurant-Farrar has shocked Perry in the first round of the postseason last season.

Revenge or not, Perry clearly showed Wednesday that they meant business, as even a delay for lightning could not stop the visiting Bluejays from flashing to an 11-0 win in five innings.

Will Whiton was dominant on the mound for Perry (9-3, 3-2). allowing only a first inning double to Casey Zarr and a walk to Hunter Kennedy while striking out eight in five frames.

Whiton was a thorn in the side of the B-F defense, too, finishing 2-for-3 with five stolen bases and three runs scored. Blake Lansing and Janier Puente were both 2-for-3, with Adan Medina 2-for-4 and stealing a base while Nic Wilhelmi also had a theft.

A single, two steals and a wild pitch moved Whiton around the bases in the first inning, with WIlhelmi walking and scoring on a Lansing squeeze bunt single for a 2-0 Perry lead.

Whiton and Zach Roberts had RBIs in a three-run Perry second, with Puente doubling home a run, Whiton stealing home and Wilhelmi driving in another tally with a sacrifice fly ball in a three-run third as the margin swelled to 8-0.

A single, two errors, a hit batsman and a series of wild pitches and passed balls sent two Perry runs across the plate in the fourth, with a final run scored in the fifth when Medina reached on a fielder’s choice, moved up on a passed ball and scored on a Kyle Nevitt base hit.

Hunter McIntosh lasted two frames on the runner for B-F. He was touched for five runs on seven hits and two walks, with Ty Flannery allowing three runs on a hit and two walks in one inning on the bump. Kennedy tossed two frames and surrendered three unearned runs on three hits. McIntosh had three strikeouts and Flannery two.

Perry hosts Ballard tonight and will travel to the Atlantic Tournament Saturday.
