Perry moved to 2-0 in Raccoon River Conference play with a 3-0 shutout of Carlisle at Dewey Field Thursday.
The Bluejays (3-2 overall) were first on the board when Jesus Rodriguez found the nylon in the 15th minute. Chance Webster pushed the lead to 2-0 before the intermission when he took an Alexis Macias pass and beat the Wildcat keeper.
The hosts showed excellent ball movement in scoring their final goal, which began when Ivan Garcia lifted a crossing pass from the right side of the goal to the left side. Carlisle players reacted to the pass, but Webster headed the ball back the direction from which it came, with David Cardenas — who was standing just inside the right post — heading the ball into the goal against a flat-footed defense.
“We had three goals, but we probably left three goals out there,” Perry head coach Gary Overla said. “We were up, 2-0, at the half, but probably should have been leading 4-0.
“Now we have a week to recuperate and get ourselves back together again,” he said. “We will use this time to sharpen things up and continue to work on being used to playing as a unit. It has been a busy stretch — we could use the break.”
Perry returns to action April 15 with a trip to Grinnell. They will host Bondurant-Farrar April 19 and Boone April 21.
