Basketball continues in the summer months and that means valuable court time for members of the Perry Bluejays.
The Perry varsity boys opened their summer league play with a 54-37 win over Saydel Sunday. Perry exploded for a 21-2 run to start the game, but played sloppily the rest of the first half and led only 28-17 at the half before pulling away after the break for the win.
Janier Puente and Ryan Rathje had 12 points apiece for Perry, with Shammond Ivory adding 11, Solomon Pierce 10 and Kyle Nevitt, Alex Long and Rashon Ivory three points each.
The Perry JV played two games with a split squad. A unit of sophomores-to-be defeated Lynnville-Sully, 53-37, with the remainder of the JV team defeating Saydel’s JV, 50-41. Drew Levan, Mark Campos, Brandon Kenyon, Luke Rathje, Luke Pfau and Michael Meyer played in the former game, with Grant Eklund, Dane McCarty, Rashon Ivory, Trey Dantzler, Puente and Pierce playing the later.
Both the varsity and JV will visit Saydel June 21.
