Perry comes up empty at Knoxville Tourney

KNOXVILLE — The Jayette netters participated in the Panther Tournament Saturday, but the results left the Perry volleyball team with a regular season win total exactly the same as last season.

Perry was 0-4 at the event to finish 7-31 overall, matching the seven wins recorded in 2017 (the Jayettes finished 7-26).

Perry fell to Knoxville, 21-16 and 21-9, to LaPorte City Union 21-16 and 21-11 and to Iowa Falls-Alden 21-13 and 21-9. ADM topped Perry, 21-14 and 21-12, in the consolation bracket.

Bondurant-Farrar won the tourney by rallying past IF-A 17-21, 21-17 and 15-9.

Kacy Nevitt led Perry with 17 kills. Mackenzie Ayers had four kills, Jasmine Shriver and Gabby West two each and Jayna Kenney, Magley Orellana and Peyton Tunink one apiece. Quinn Whiton provided 24 assists, and Shriver two.

Shriver had 23 digs, Orellana 21, Nevitt 14 and West and Whiton 12 each. Stephanie Garcia had eight digs and Ayers six, with Kenney tallying five digs and Mary Ann Riesburg two.

Nevitt had two blocks at the net, Kenney 1.5 blocks, West and Whiton one each and Shriver .5 blocks.

Shriver served 18-of-19 with three aces, with Whiton 16-18-2 and Kenney 16-18-1. Ayers was 13-14-1 behind the line, Orellana 12-13-1 and Nevitt 8-12-1 while Tunink was 2-4-1 and Ainsley Marburger 2-of-2.

Perry visits Boone (7-27) Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a Class 4A Region 3 first round match. The winner will travel to third-ranked DC-G Oct. 23, with the Regional Final played at the highest remaining seed Oct. 29. Gilbert hosts Ballard, the winner to visit Norwalk, in the bottom half of the bracket.
