Perry cross country teams visit AC/GC Thursday

GUTHRIE CENTER — The Perry boys and girls varsity and middle school harriers ran at the Charger Invitational Thursday.

The Perry boys were third in their team race with 86 points. AC/GC was first with a perfect score of 15, with CAM second at 72. Perry followed, with West Central Valley (94) fourth and East Union (107) fifth.

AC/GC won the girls team side with 26 points, with WCV (46) second and East Union (63) third. Perry had only four runners compete and thus did not generate a team score.

Trevin Suhr of AC/GC won the boys race in 18 minutes, 29.01 seconds, with AC/GC sophomore Rylee Sloss winning the girls honor in 22:26.3.

Jaysen Chavez, Gannon Meis, and Johnathan Chavez were the top three Bluejays to finish, crossing 12th in 21:36.06, 15th in 22:43.37, and 18th in 23:09.76, respectively. Jeb Stewart (20th, 23:42.12) and Johnathan Munoz (21st, 23:46.55) also scored for the varsity.

Byrce Anliker (28th, 26:41.4) and Kyle Hernandez (33rd, 32;02.59) also ran for Perry, as did Sebastian Hernandez (36:57.53).

Kennedy Tunink (12th, 23:53.23), Cris Gomez (18th, 28:40.07), Misty Gomez (29th, 37:12.48), and Michelle Tobar (30th, 38:19.83) competed for the Perry girls varsity team.

The Perry Middle School boys won their race with 29 points, with AC/GC (42) and Martensdale-St. Marys (59) following, with M-Sm (22), Perry (33), and Coon Rapids-Bayard (79) scoring in the girls team race. Middle school races are two-miles in length.

Perry’s Oscar Beltrand won the boys event in 12:54.36, with Owen Meyers fourth in 14:30.91, and Thad Stuart seventh in 17:13.86. Renzo Saenz was eighth, in 17:42.92, with Oscar Villalobos ninth in 18:04.09. Christobal Turrado (11th, 18:21.27) and Carlos Ruiz (12th, 18:31.5) also ran for the Bluejays.

Placing third overall for the Jayettes was Taryn Nehring (16:29.69), with Quin Mahler-Moreno fifth in 16:51.54. Also scoring were Julie Maylum (7th, 17:08.57), Olivia Christensen (9th, 17:14.7), and Mylah Meis (10th, 18:07.64). Mercedes Ponce (11th, 18:39.3) and Maria Aguilar (16th, 20:11.43) were on the course for Perry as well.

All Jayette middle school runners listed are in eighth grade, with Stuart the lone seventh grade student for the Bluejay squad.

Perry returns to action Thursday when they host the annual Leon Fox Invitational at the Perry Golf and Country Club. The middle school races will begin the meet at 4:15 p.m.
