Perry Elementary hits the bottle after break in service line

Students at the Perry Elementary School are drinking bottled water Tuesday after a break in a service line interrupted the school’s water supply, according to Perry Water Works Superintendent Hank Schmidt.

“It’s on the school’s service line,” Schmidt said. “They got it repaired. We kept it pressurized the whole time. It was a clean repair, so we’re confident that it’s safe but just out of an abundance of caution, the superintendent has advised students, faculty and staff not to drink the water until it’s tested.”

Schmidt said the Perry Elementary School will follow the bottled-water advisory until the laboratory returns the bacterial tests results, which are expected by Wednesday.

“This isn’t the first break on this service line,” Schmidt said. “This is about 60 feet from where the last one happened. It’s an old line that probably needs to be replaced, but it’s the property of the school district.”
