For the second time this season the Perry baseball team used a big inning to carry the squad past ADM for a Raccoon River Conference victory. The Bluejays had used a six-run sixth inning to rally for a 9-7 win in Adel June 1, and Wednesday sent 12 batters to the plate in a seven-run fourth frame to help capture a 7-6 win after having trailed, 5-0.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]
An Ethan Meyer double and Spencer Collins two-run home run in the top of the first gave the Tigers (5-7, 0-5) a quick 2-0 lead, with Perry committing four of their seven errors in the second frame as three more ADM runs scored for a 5-0 lead.
A lightning delay and then a short rainstorm delayed the contest nearly 50 minutes in the bottom of the second.
The reset clearly served Perry (5-5, 4-2) well, as three consecutive walks and a two-run double by Aaron Lockwood started a wild bottom of the fourth. Kato Dougan doubled home a run, Kaleb Olejniczak singled home another and would later score on a wild pitch, with two hit-batsmen with the bases loaded adding two more runs to the Perry total as the hosts surged to a 7-5 lead.
ADM scored once in the fifth to close to within a run, but Austin Carpenter came on from Alexis Garrido and retired all eight batters he faced to earn the save.
Garrido went 4-1/3 frames, allowing six runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks. He hit one batter and struck out seven, with Carpenter throwing 2-2/3 innings and striking out two.
Perry is at Winterset Monday and Carroll Wednesay before visiting Boone Thursday. The next home game will be June 25 when Carlisle visits Progressive Field.
