Perry Fire Department history to be surveyed by Brian Eiteman

Perry Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Brian Eiteman will lead a tour through 140 years of the history of Perry’s fire department at a Saturday, April 21 event at the Carnegie Library Museum at 1123 Willis Ave.

Eiteman will share stories and historic photos at the 2 p.m. presentation from his new book, “Perry Fire Department 1878-2018.” The book outlines the history of firefighting in Perry, including the old fire station and the men and women who have served as firefighters here in Perry.

Eiteman is a fourth-generation Perry firefighter who joined Perry’s fire department in 1992. He is also the department historian and curator of the Iowa Fire Museum and Fire Prevention Education Center at 1122 Second St. in downtown Perry.

The free event at the Carnegie Library Museum will also include a guided tour of the Iowa Fire Museum. Signed copies of Eiteman’s book will also be available for purchase at $20 for a softcover copy and $27 for hardcover.
