Perry firefighters quickly quench blaze at Bacon’s early Wednesday

The Perry Volunteer Fire Department quickly controlled a fire that broke out in downtown Perry shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Heavy smoke was visible at the rear of 1213 Second St. and 1215 Second St., twin buildings owned by the Edmund R. Bacon Jr. family and the commercial homes of Bacon Jewelers and Perry Floral.

There were no apparent injuries in the incident. Officers of the Perry Police Department were first on the scene and evacuated the occupants of neighboring apartments.

Smoke was plainly visible in adjacent buildings, such at Ben’s Five and Dime to the north of the 118-year-old Bacon property.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation at this hour.

Firefighters from the Perry and Dawson stations of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department, the Woodward Volunteer Fire Department, the Dallas County Sheriff’s office and the Dallas County EMS responded.
