Perry firefighters receive VFW Valor Award for Lifesaving

Five members of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department were presented Saturday with the National Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Valor Award for Lifesaving.

The ceremonies were held during the Department of Iowa VFW awards luncheon at the Airport Holiday Inn in Des Moines, with VFW National Commander Matthew “Fritz” Mihelcic presenting the awards to Perry firefighters Israel Baltazar, Robert Harlan, Joel Eiteman, Andrew Modlin and Brian Eiteman.

Mihelcic praised the firefighters for the selfless bravery they displayed in in saving the life of a man trapped in a house fire April 20, 2020, in Perry.
