The Perry Area Food Pantry at 3000 Willis Ave. now offers a surrogate-shopper service for the community's most vulnerable members.

In an effort to serve older adults and anyone afraid to venture out during the Coronavirus Response and Recovery time, the Perry Area Food Pantry is expanding its services to include surrogate shoppers.

Perry Area Food Pantry Site Manager Lou Hoger explained the new service to ThePerryNews.com.

“If you would like someone to come to the pantry and pick up an order for you as a surrogate shopper, please call me at 515-570-2975,” Hoger said. “I will take your order and send you a surrogate shopper form that should reach you the next day. Your surrogate shopper will return the form when they come pick up your order.”

Hoger said the new service offers maximum protection to the community’s most vulnerable members.

“We want you to stay safe as well as serve you,” Hoger said.

Pantry clients can still shop in person at 3000 Willis Ave. on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 1-3:30 p.m., but the shopping process has temporarily changed. Shoppers no longer pick the items from the shelves themselves but instead fill out a request sheet, and their orders are filled by volunteers and delivered to the clients’ vehicles.
