Volunteers and visitors commingled Saturday at the Perry Food Pantry open house.

The Perry Food Pantry welcomed the public Saturday morning to an open house at their new facility at 3112 Willis Ave. (aka 1300 28th St.), just north of Willis Avenue and 28th Street.

Volunteers led visitors on brief tours of the facility, including refrigeration equipment recently acquired through grants and the large donation of pork loins from Tyson Fresh Meats.

“We want the Perry community to share in the excitement of our newly remodeled store and location,” said Site Manager Lou Hoger.

Hoger said the demand for pantry goods is now increasing as inflation eats away at the modest wage gains recently enjoyed by the laboring classes in the Perry area.

The pantry serves eligible households in the Perry Community School District area on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from 1-3:30 p.m.

The Perry Area Food Pantry is a 501(c)3 non-profit and has served the community since 1987. A board of directors from the community provides leadership and support. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 156, Perry, IA 50220 or online from the Facebook link at Perry Emergency Food Pantry or our website.
