CARROLL — A lopsided loss at Carroll Friday followed one day after the first win of the season for the Perry girls basketball team.

Carroll (3-2, 1-2) dominated Friday’s Raccoon River Conference outing, winning 70-25, the outcome coming on the heels of a 48-44 win for Perry (1-3, 0-3) over host West Central Valley in non-conference play Thursday.

Lydia Olejniczak erupted for 23 points to lead the Jayettes against the Wildcats. She had 17 points in the first half as Perry took a 15-4 lead after one frame to post a 30-17 edge at the break. WCV closed to within 38-28 with eight minutes to play, then received 14 fourth quarter points from Madelyn Jaeger to nearly pull off the big rally.

Perry led, 35-21, when Jaeger began splashing 3-pointers, helping bring the hosts to within 40-39. A trey from Jayna Kenney and clutch basket from Olejniczak helped stem the tide, allowing Perry to hang on for the victory.

The guests were 11-of-15 at the foul line with the home team sinking just 8-of-17. WCV missed their lone attempt in the second half.

Kenney had 10 points and Quinn Whiton eight for Perry, with Kathryn West adding four points, Michelle Tobar two and Lanie Fish one. Kenney had two triples and Whiton one.

Jaeger finished with a game-high 28 points, with Presley Pivonka tallying seven to lead the Wildcats.

Perry was never in Friday’s game, falling into a 22-3 hole after one quarter and trailing, 43-9, at the intermission. The Jayettes trailed, 63-16, entering the final frame.

Olejniczak had seven points and Kenney and Tobar six each. West, Phoebe Stewart, and Kennedy Tunink had two points apiece for the guests.

Ten players scored for the Tigers. Ella Collison led the way with 18 points, with Kennedy Lein adding 15 and Shey Sinnard 10.

Perry visits Gilbert Tuesday, hosts North Polk Friday and entertains ADM Dec. 22 in their final three outings before the holiday break.
