Lightning delayed the start of the Raccoon River Conference girls meet at the Perry Golf and Country Club by an hour Monday morning, but when the teams stepped onto the course it was Perry who appeared least fazed by the conditions.

To no one’s surprise a solid ADM team easily won the team title, but it was Perry’s strong all-around effort that elevated the Jayettes to second place that may have taken some observers by surprise.

ADM’s 399 was well out of reach for Perry, who shot 421, but Jayette coach Joel Happel could not have been happier with the effort of his team.

“Second place, and far enough behind that we don’t have to play the ‘what if?’ game,” he noted. “I am very happy with second place, but I am also happy that ALL [emphasis Happel’s] the girls played well.”

Brooke Huntington fired a 50-52-102 to finish fourth overall, while Alyssa Kruger shot a 55-49–104 to tie four others for sixth place, securing all-conference nods for both Perry girls.

“Obviously you start with Brooke and Alyssa getting all-conference,” Happel said, “but I was also very excited to see Skylar (Cunningham) and Hannah (Roberts) shoot probably the best rounds of their year.”

Cunningham had a 56-51–107 and with a little luck would have shaved two further strokes, as a pair of lengthy putts missed falling into the cup by mere inches. Ellie Nielsen had a 52-56–108 and Sarah Sweet a 56-52–108, with Roberts shooting 56-54–110.

Carlisle finished third at 427 and Carlisle fourth at 436, with Bondurant-Farrar (439) fifth, Ballard (443) sixth and Winterset (475) seventh. Boone does not have a girls team.

Tania Telford (49-44–93) and Lindsey Lange (51-44–95) of ADM claimed the top two individual honors, with Carroll’s Sara Sweeney (51-49–100) third and Carlisle’s Macey Brower (51-52–103) fifth.

Nicole Bever (52-52–104) and Bailey Danner (54-53–107) joined Telford and Lange in scoring for ADM, with Somer Sinnard (54-50–104), Kyla Boes (56-55–111) and Arrington Jensen (60-52–112) joining Sweeney on the Carroll score sheet.

Brower was joined by Sheridan Crippen (56-49–105), Hailey Branson (56-54–110) and Mackenzie Lose (59-59–118) in scoring for Carlisle, while Hunter Jontz (47-57–104), Taylor Kanselaar (52-52–104), Madison Briggs (53-61–114) and Briley Hick (53-64–117) scored for B-F.

Ballard used the cards of Allie Echer (52-55–107), Abby Vincent (52-55–107), Kaylee Klunder (58-56–114) and Madison Knutson (56-59–115) while Winterset tabulated the rounds of Beth Stolte (53-53–106), Ellie Easter (59-58–117), Corry Pickering (64-59—123) and Ericka Shahan (64-65–129).

Perry will join DC-G for a triangular at Winterset Monday before traveling to Newton for their Regional meet May 23.
