Near-perfect weather greeted the golfers who competed Monday in the annual Witmer-Dunphy Co-ed at the Perry Golf and Country Club.

Named for longtime Perry golf coaches and advocates Larry Dunphy and the late Dean Witmer, the event crowns an overall team champion by comparing the combined boys/girls scores from each team.

Nevada had a combined 362 to win the event this year, with Gilbert in second at 386 followed by Ogden (388) and Perry (419). Boys team scores were Gilbert (154), Perry (161), Nevada (163) and Ogden (180), with Nevada (199), Ogden (208), Gilbert (232) and Perry (258) the order of finish on the girls side.

Jack Brosnahan led Perry with a one-over par 37 on the strength of four pars, two birdies and three bogeys while an eagle 3 on the par-5 8th hole helped Noah Wilkening shoot a two-over par 38. Connor Nielsen and Will Whiton each carded rounds of 43 to account for the Perry boys score, as the Bluejays did not tabulate the 50 from Kade VanKirk or the 55 from Zach Roberts.

Laurann Perry had a 58 and Sarah Sweet a 59 to pace the Perry girls, with Hannah Roberts shooting a 70. The team also used either one of the two rounds of 71 provided by Skylar Cunningham and Caley Hager.

“Laurann continues to improve,” Jayette head coach Joel Happel said. “Sarah has not scored as well as last year but started to show improvement.

“Hannah was the toughest golfer of the day,” he added. “She was hit by in the face just a little bit from her right eye but continued the round with a good sized black and blue bump.”

Joe Gibbons led the Gilbert boys with an even-par round of 36 that secured medalist honors, with Braydon Otto of Nevada tying Brosnahan for runner-up plaudits with a 37 while Hunter Longnecker’s 42 was the low round for the Ogden boys.

Claire Ausman of Nevada had a 45 to lead all girls scorers, with Cub teammate Chloe Davis and Ogden’s Sveta Hansen tied for the runner-up spot with rounds of 49. Katie Jenkins had a 54 to lead Gilbert.
