Some of the Perry football players take a necessary water break during Friday's session of the Bluejay Football Camp.

So, the temperature is in the middle 90’s, you say? And the humidity is making the heat index hover near 110? Too bad, camp is underway.

If there is a way to measure the devotion of your football team, holding the first day your annual camp in such sweltering conditions might be a good way of doing son.

Some 40 players participated Friday at the Perry Football Camp, working on basic fundamentals. Middle school gridders held camp from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with high school backs and receivers going form 2:30-3:30 p.m. The entire high school team held camp from 4-6 p.m.

Camp continues Saturday, with middle school players participating from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Backs and receivers from grades 9-12 will hold camp form 3:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, with the entire high school squad on the field from 5-7 p.m.

There is no middle school camp Sunday, but all high school gridders will report from 12-2 p.m.

Perry opens their season August 25 with a trip to North Polk. A visit to Nevada September 1 follows before the Bluejays open Class 3A District 2 play when they host Ballard September 8.
