Perry will host Algona at Dewey Field for Homecoming Oct. 2. A full week of activities is planned at Perry High School to celebrate Homecoming.
Each day will be a special clothing day, with students asked to follow a specific theme. Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday in Twin Day (two students will dress identical to each other), Wednesday is Volunteer Day, Thursday is Patriotic Day and Friday is Class Day, with freshmen wearing red, sophomores white, juniors black and seniors blue.
Volunteer Day will see hundreds of Perry students out and about the community providing a variety of services and/or working on a series of projects. Students will work from 8:30-11 a.m., with an outdoor grill-out at Dewey Field replacing the normal school lunch. At noon students will return to their projects until 2 p.m.
Thursday will feature a pep rally at 8 p.m. in the PHS gym, with the public invited to attend. The King and Queen will be announced, with a variety of humorous skits and activities planned. All will then be invited to cross McKinley Street and to the Perry Athletic Complex, where a bonfire will be held.
At 2 p.m. Friday, a series of games will be held in the gym, with the classes competing with each other. All week the students will be vying to earn “spirit points” with the winning class announced at the game and earning the “Spirit Stick” totem in the trophy case. The current junior class is the reigning class “with the most school spirit” as they won the honor last year and will be looking to repeat as class “spirit champions.”
