Perry junior varsity wrestlers turn in strong performance

Perry faced four foes Saturday at the AC/GC Tournament.

ALLEMAN — The junior varsity grapplers from Perry participated in the North Polk Invitational Saturday, with five of the 13 Bluejays in action posting undefeated records.

Luke Holtorf was 3-0 with a trio of pins at 285 pounds, with Daniel Brinton 2-0 at 170 with two pins while Francisco Colon was 2-0 in his 170 bracket with a pin and major decision.

A pair of 7-0 wins by decision sent Chien Doan to a 2-0 mark at 160, with Tucker Strough (126 pounds) using a pin and a win by injury default to also finish 2-0.

“The JV turned out a great performance,” Perry head coach Mark Weber said. “The goal as a team was to go into this Christmas break feeling proud of our fight and effort, and I think we can do that.”

Rodrigo Guevara (106) won once by pin, with Cori Alamina (195) winning a decision as each finished 1-1. Daniel Ortiz was 1-2 at 152 with a win by injury default, with Jeb Stewart 1-2 at 138 with a win in Sudden Victory I.

Hunter McDowell (106), Angel Rivera (145), Jose Guillen (195) and Angel Escobar (220) were also in action for the JV Jays but were unable to find their way to victory.
