The August meeting of the Perry Lions Club included the recognition of Lion’s Club Past President Dave Wright, whose two-year term recently ended. President Lou Hoger and the membership thanked Wright for his energetic activism on behalf of Lions’ causes and presented him with a plaque as a token of gratitude.

Lion Richard Saemisch then introduced Matt Conrad of Perry. Conrad has an auto body shop at 2723 Warford St. in Perry, and his hobby is drag racing cars. Conrad parker a hot rod in front of the Hotel Pattee for the club to see.

The car was built on a Chrysler frame but has been greatly modified. It has wide, bald tires on the rear and a massive eight-cylinder engine under the hood. Conrad uses a special fuel for the car that costs $10 per gallon.

He said the most important item on the car is the steel frame roll cage that he sits in when he drives the car. The straight pipe exhaust system nearly broke the Lions’ eardrums when Conrad started the car.

The membership thanked Conrad for his interesting program about his hobby of drag racing and building drag cars.
