The Perry Lions Club held their annual Christmas dinner and awards program at the
Hotel Pattee on Monday, Dec. 10.

Before the meal, the club was entertained by Perry High School student musicians Olivia and Isaiah Christensen, who played traditional Christmas songs on the hotel’s grand
piano.

The main entrée for the meal was a classic chicken cordon bleu, with a chicken breast
stuffed with thinly sliced ham and wrapped around bleu cheese and baked in a bread
crust.

The meal also included a salad, mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes with gravy and
focaccia bread.

Several of the attendees wore special Christmas sweaters for the annual Ugly Sweater
Contest.

All four of the participating ladies were given trophies for their prize-winning attire. Of the five men who wore the ugly sweaters, Don Ruggle and Lou Hoger tied for first place.

Sweater judging was done by the Hotel Pattee staff.

After the meal, Lions Club President Harley McGuire presented the Iowa Lion’s
Club Warren Coleman Honorary Award to four members of the Perry Lions Club: John Andorf, Gary Becker, Ray Harden and Lou Hoger.

The Wrren Coleman Award is presented to the members who represent the Spirit of Lions with their service to the community and the Lions Club organization.

In November the Perry Lions Club Past President Trisha Smith was presented with the
Club Excellence Award for the 2023-2024 fiscal year by the Lion’s District Governor Gary
Glockhoff. Under Smith’s leadership, the membership in the local club increased and the club took on new service projects for the Perry Community.
