Rick Carpenter, director of the DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy, was the guest speaker at last Monday’s meeting of the Perry Lions Club.
Carpenter told the Lions about all the programs offered at the VanKirk Career Academy and how students can earn college credits before attending one of Iowa’s universities or four-year colleges.
Carpenter is originally from Missouri and trained as a speech teacher. He has extensive experience in community college programs and has worked 26 years in higher education. Carpenter opened the successful DMACC Southridge Career Academy in Des Moines before coming to Perry last fall.
