The Perry Lutheran Homes has been named one of the best facilities for memory care in the Des Moines area in 2020 by MemoryCare.com after hours of research and an intensive selection process.

MemoryCare.com is a comprehensive resource for caregivers and older adults living with memory impairment and was designed to help caregivers find effective solutions for their loved ones.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, one out of every 10 adults over the age of 65 has Alzheimer’s. In Des Moines the number of senior deaths related to Alzheimer’s increased by 36% between 2013 and 2018. As Iowa’s population continues to age, the demand for high-quality memory care communities will also increase.

“Caregiving for someone that has Alzheimer’s or dementia can be incredibly tough,” said Melissa Gannon, COO and administrator at the Perry Lutheran Homes, “especially as the disease progresses and safety is a factor due to wandering or other behaviors. We want caregivers to know that it’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to take a respite. And it’s okay to let us fulfill the caregiver role so that you can go back to being their spouse, their child or their friend.”

Seniors find Christ-centered, award-winning memory care at the Perry Lutheran Homes. The Spring Valley campus offers assisted living for residents with early-stage memory loss, and the Willis campus cares for those with mid-stage to advanced dementia-related illnesses in two secure CCDI, memory care neighborhoods – St. James’ and St. John’s.

Innovative, life-skill stimulation areas are part of the person-centered approach provided to residents by a care staff trained and certified through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. The nurturing, homelike environment supports residents as they each reach their full potential using art, pet, Music & Memory® and other therapies.

Other personalized care and activities are delivered through the IdentitE program, interaction with babies and children from the on-site daycare and exploring interests through iN2L (It’s Never 2 Late) person-centered technology program.

The MemoryCare.com guide identified the 12 Best Memory Care Communities in 2020 that were selected on criteria such as location, access to experts, facility features, amenities and reviews.

Max Phillips, CEO of the Perry Lutheran Homes. “It’s truly an honor and reflection of the uniqueness, innovativeness and quality care received at Perry Lutheran Homes memory care communities.”
