Matthew James Kilts, 40, of Perry was arrested Thursday on a charge of assault with intent to inflict serious injury.

A Perry man was arrested early Thursday after he allegedly struck another man in the head with bicycle parts.

Matthew James Kilts, 40, of 2014 Warford St., Perry, was charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury.

The incident began shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday, when officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of an assault near 11th and Lucinda streets in Perry.

The responding officers found the victim “bleeding from a head wound,” according to court records. The Dallas County EMS was paged to treat the victim for a laceration.

The victim told the officers he was outside the garage at Kilts’ residence when Kilts allegedly “approached the victim” with “an object in his hand, and told the victim that this was going to hurt.”

According to court records, Kilts allegedly “swung the object at the victim’s head, causing the laceration to his head.”

The victim told the officers that after he was assaulted, he “ran from the garage,” and Kilts “followed him on a bike.”

According to court records, Kilts told the officers that “he approached the victim and told him that they needed to talk” before “he unintentionally struck the male with a bike tire and a piece of a bike seat.”

Kilts is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
