Perry man allegedly murders wife Sunday night

A Perry man faces first-degree murder charges after he told law enforcement Sunday night that he killed his wife in order “to put her out of her misery,” according to court records.

Richard James Hoesing, 75, of 2615 Lucinda St., Perry, was charged with first-degree murder.

The incident began about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, when Hoesing called the Dallas County Sheriff’s office communications center and “said that he had killed the victim, his wife,” according to court records.

Officers with the Perry Police Department responded and found the deceased victim inside the residence with “a severe laceration across the front of her throat,” according to court records.

Hoesing told the officers that his wife “suffered from bi-polar condition and M.S.,” according to court records.

Hoesing is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

The Perry Police Department was assisted in its investigation by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Dallas County Emergency Medical Services, Dallas County Attorney’s office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
