Julio Adrian Ruiz, 22, of Perry was arrested Saturday on a charge of second-offense domestic abuse assault.

A Perry man was arrested Saturday night after allegedly bludgeoning a Perry woman because he was under stress.

Julio Adrian Ruiz, 22, of 1421 Fifth St., Perry, was charged with second-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 7:45 p.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of Fifth Street, where officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, “with her shirt and head covered in blood,” according to court records. The “wounds on her head” led the officers to believe that “she had been struck with some sort of blunt object,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that “she had been walking down Fifth Street when a skinny, young male in all-black clothing struck her over the head,” according to court records.

Officers made contact with Ruiz, who told the officers “that he had gotten angry due to a lot of stress in his life and struck the victim over the head with a ceramic statue once ‘as hard as he could,’ breaking it, before punching her in the head approximately 6-8 times,” according to court records.

The officers found a “broken statue” in “a trash can located in the kitchen of the residence,” according to court records.

Ruiz is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a hearing Nov. 20 in Dallas County District Court.

Ruiz was convicted of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness in 2022 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness in 2021 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness in 2021 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault in 2020 in Dallas County District Court.
