Perry Middle School girls host Mary Waggie relays

The Perry Middle School track teams hosted the Mary Waggie Relays at Kaufman Track April 30.

The Mary Waggie Relays were held at Kaufman Track April 30, with girls seventh and eighth grade teams from ADM, Ballard, Bondurant-Farrar, Nevada and Newton joining Perry for the annual unscored meet.

Zowie Strough was second for the Perry grade 8 squad in the 100 hurdles in 17.96 seconds and third in the 200 hurdles in 33.19 while Kitzya Soto was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 20 feet, 5-1/4 inches. Those were the only non-relay placers for Perry.

Natalie Martinez, Stephanie Garcia, Gabby West and Jaky Castaneda were second in the 4×800 in 12 minutes, 39.15 seconds, with Mackenzie Ayers, Alondra Avila, Jessica Ortiz and Garcia were third in the distance medley in 5:42.29 while Michelle Ruedas, Kat Munoz, Castaneda and Ortiz were fourth in the sprint medley in 2:24.53.

Maura Richardson, Fatima Hurtado and Lillian and Gissele Robles were fourth in the 4×100 (1:00.79), Adrianna Eastman, Garcia, West and Ortiz were fifth in the 4×400 (5:38) and Ayers, Eastman, Strough and Skyler Feldman fifth in the shuttle hurdle (1:24.94) while Kassandra Medina, Castaneda, Munoz and Avila placed sixth in the 4×200 (2:20.7).

Rylynn Gilmore had a strong meet for the seventh graders in the throwing events, winning the discus by a wide margin with a spin of 64’2 while placing second in the shot put with a throw of 23’1.

Ruby Ramos and Magley Orellana were 3-4 in the 100 hurdles with clockings of 20.46 and 20.71, respectively, with Orellana fifth in the 200 hurdles in 39.54. The pair were joined by Yamileth Figueroa and Alexis Martinez in placing fifth in the shuttle hurdle in 1:29.16.

Ann Nicolaisen crossed third in the 400 in 1:20.09, with Denise Majia sixth in the 1500 in 6:13.85 while Carly Herrera flew 11’3-1/4 to finish sixth in the long jump.

Molly Lutmer and Darien Westphal ran with Figueroa and Herrera in the distance medley, which finished third in 5:28.18 while Herrera, Westphal, Lutmer and Narale Cerna finished fifth in the 4×400 in 5:16.13.

Perry was sixth in the sprint medley (2:23.5) and 4×200 (2:23.8) with Lutmer, Herrera, Montserrat Gonzalez and Myka Meri running the former and Gonzalez, Cerna, Figueroa and Kassandra Guardado the later. Majia, Westphal, Cerna and Ramos also provided a sixth-place finish for the hosts in the 4×800 by crossing in 12:48.77.
