Perry netters come up empty at Indianola tourney

INDIANOLA — Saturday’s trip to the Indianola Tournament resulted in four 2-0 losses for the Perry volleyball team, with the outcomes dropping the Jayettes to 11-14 overall for the season.

Perry fell to Williamsburg, 21-10 and 21-14, to Fort Dodge, 21-3 and 21-9 and to Glenwood, 21-8 and 21-7, with Stanton posting a 21-12 and 21-11 victory.

The Jayettes never had control of the momentum in any of the eight sets, as revealed by the fact that the team served only 76 times in the tourney. Perry was 66-of-76 (.868) with seven aces behind the line.

Lanie Fish was 10-of-10 with four aces and Jasmine Shriver 14-of-14 with one ace while Jayna Kenney finished 12-13-1 and Magley Orellana 8-10-1. Taylor Atwell was 7-of-8, Kacy Nevitt 4-of-9, Bella Nath 2-of-3, Mary Ann Riesberg 7-of-7 and Jenisis Cerna 2-of-2.

Nevitt led the team with 12 kills, with Shriver and Nath adding two apiece and Ashley Cerna one. Atwell had seven assists, Kenney six and Nath and Orellana one each.

Orellana’s 25 digs were the team high, with Shriver making 19 digs, Nevitt 15 and Riesberg 14. Kenney had 10 digs, Atwell and Fish four apiece, and Ashley Cerna, Jenisis Cerna, Joscelyn Nunez and Peyton Tunink one each.

Perry returns to the court Thursday with a trip to Carlisle.
