Perry netters receive series of honors for athletics, academics

The Perry volleyball team has earned an IGHSAU Distinguished Academic Achievement Award for excellence in the classroom by having team members in grades 10-12 post a combined grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

In addition, Jayette senior netters Mariah Duffy, Victoria Hegstrom, Taylor Lathrum and Ellie Nielsen, along with juniors Grace Marburger and Adrian Thompson and sophomore Sid Vancil each earned All-Raccoon River Conference All-Academic status for having an individual GPA of 3.25 or higher.

On-court prowess was not overlooked, either, as Nielsen was named to the All-RRC First Team while Vancil was named to the Honorable Mention list.

Nielsen finished with 56 kills, 46 digs and 23 assists while serving 65-of-72 (.903) with seven aces while making three blocks in 25 RRC sets this season. Vancil had 130 assists, 26 digs, a pair of kills and six aces on 75-of-80 (.938) serving in 26 sets in RRC play.

Perry was 12-23 overall and 0-7 in conference play this year.
