ADM continued Perry’s long winless skid in Raccoon River Conference play with a 3-0 sweep Tuesday, besting the host Jayettes by scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-10.
A dramatic statistical advantage in favor of the Tigers (5-6, 1-0) pointed to the victory. While both teams misfired on six serves in the match, the Jayettes (2-2, 0-2) had only 33 total attempts and converted no aces, with the visitors serving 73 times, of which 17 were aces.
“It just came down to serve-receive for us,” Perry head coach John Fulton said. “We allowed 17 aces and we aren’t going to compete — let alone beat — anybody with those numbers.”
“Our first touch was awful all night, and that is going to lead to all the other issues,” he added. “We just have to get better on serve-receive in order to get better with anything.”
Kacy Nevitt had seven kills, Jasmine Shriver and Peyton Tunink two each and Ashley Cerna and Quinn Whiton one apiece for Perry. Whiton had nine assists, with Cerna and Magley Orellana providing one assist each.
Whiton led the team with six digs, with Orellana making four while Shriver and Nevitt had two apiece.
Orellana served 7-of-7, Whiton 5-of-7, Nevitt 4-of-6, Shriver 4-of-4 and Cerna 2-of-2. Jayna Kenney was 3-of-5 behind the line and Jenisis Cerna 2-of-2.
Perry will host a six-team tourney, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Coon Rapids-Bayard, Earlham, Ogden, Panorama and Des Moines North will all be in competition. Perry will then travel to Ballard Tuesday when conference play resumes.
