Perry netters take to the court at Indianola Tournament

Perry played a quintet of matches Saturday at the Indianola Tournament.

INDIANOLA, IOWA — Saturday witnessed the Perry volleyballers play five matches at the Indianola Tourney, with the Jayettes finishing 1-4 overall.

Perry, now 11-21 overall, opened play by dropping a tight contest to Fort Dodge. The Jayettes won the first game, 21-19, before falling, 21-18 in game two. A win in the tiebreaker was tantalizingly close, with Perry falling, 15-13, to drop the match.

Indianola cruised to a 21-10, 21-9 win in Perry’s second match, but the Jayettes responded by defeating Clarinda, 7-21, 22-20, 15-8 to cap pool play.

Ballard bested Perry, 25-14, 25-19, in bracket action, with a rematch against Fort Dodge claimed by the Dodgers with finals of 25-17 and 25-14.

Sixteen kills form Peyton Tunink and 14 from Ashley Cerna led the Perry attack, with Kathryn West adding eight kills, Jayna Kenney seven, Taylor Atwell four and Callie Steva one.

Atwell had 34 assists and Kenney nine, with Tunink having two and Cerna and Addison Huntington one each.

Huntington’s 29 digs paced the defensive effort, with Tunink providing 26 digs and and Cerna 24. Atwell made 14 digs and Valerie Contreras 12, with 10 from Kenney, seven from West, five from Steva and one from Kimberly Castillo rounding out the stat line.

Cerna served 33-of-39 with eight aces, Tunink was 35-38-5 and West 22-25-3. Atwell finished 23-25-1 behind the line, with Steva 15-23-2, Huntington 13-16-1 and Castillo 3-3-1.

As a team Perry hit on 150-of-176 serves (85 percent) while making 22 aces.

Perry hosts South Hamilton Tuesday and Nevada Thursday as the conclude the regular season with a pair of HOIC matches.
