The Perry Pathfinders 4-H club delivered a donation Sunday of some $200 in pet supplies to the Raccoon River Pet Rescue in Perry.
The service project was the idea of Lily Hollingsworth, who suggested the club use its treasury funds to purchase and donate the supplies, and the membership approved the idea. The funds came from previous fundraisers the club has done over the last few years.
Hollingsworth said some of the pet blankets were handmade by club members, and a cat tower will be delivered once it arrives from Amazon.
The Perry Pathfinders 4-H members taking part in Sunday’s drop off were Hollingsworth, Hannah Sucher, Dyson Deardorff, Boomer Deardorff, Aleah Karolus and Austin Sucher.
Janelle Repp, Raccoon River Pet Rescue board member and tireless volunteer, said the spring kitten season has begun, so the rescue’s need for canned kitten and cat food and high-quality dry cat food is growing.
“This is just so appreciated,” Repp said to the 4-H kids. “I just can’t say it enough. Especially the disposable things, like the cat litter and paper towels and Pine Sol, which we use every single day.”
