Selvin Ivan Santos Ortez, 25, of 2801 First Ave., Perry, was arrested by Perry Police Department officers Sunday morning on a Dodge County, Wis., warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of second-degree sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age.

Officers of the Perry Police Department arrested a man about 5:30 a.m. Sunday who was a fugitive from justice in Wisconsin.

Selvin Ivan Santos Ortez, 25, of 2801 First Ave., Perry, was arrested on a Dodge County, Wis., warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of second-degree sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age.

A spokesperson for the Perry Police Department said officers located Santos Ortez and served the arrest warrant after receiving information from Wisconsin law enforcement.

Santos Ortez is held at the Dallas County Jail while awaiting extradition.

According to Wisconsin court records, the alleged sexual assault occurred on or around June 1, 2015.

Records indicate Santos Ortez lived in Ankeny at the time a criminal complaint was first filed in Dodge County District Court in March 2018.

Santos Ortez did not appear for an initial hearing April 9, 2018, and Dodge County District Court Judge Joseph G. Sciascia issued the arrest warrant that Perry officers served Sunday.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
