Perry Police Sgt. Matt Aswegan has accepted a position with the Polk City Police Department and will leave the Perry Police Department after seven years on the force.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn announced Aswegan’s departure at the Monday meeting of the Perry Crimestoppers group.

Aswegan was promoted to the rank of patrol sergeant in November 2017. He served asĀ one of the department’s firearms instructors and as a field training officer.

Vaughn said the department will immediately begin the process of hiring an officer to fill the vacancy opened by Aswegan’s departure. The police department is already seeking one officer and now will seek two.
