The Perry Planning and Zoning Commission voted Tuesday to recommend to the Perry City Council new artworks for placement along the Raccoon River Valley Trail in Perry.

The public artworks were created by the students in the welding program at the DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy.

One of the works spells out the word, “Welcome,” in bicycle parts, and the other is an amalgamation of several bicycle frames.

The proposal calls for one of the pieces to be placed near the downtown trailhead and the second piece just south of Iowa Highway 141, where the trail makes an S curve on its way to Minburn.

The P&Z commissioners also recognized with gratitude the DMACC students who put together the float for the Fourth of July parade.

The Perry City Council will take up the commissions recommendation for the public art at its July 19 meeting at 6 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room of the Towncraft building at 1122 Willis Ave.
