
Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn sustained a gunshot wound in a law enforcement action Tuesday morning that concluded near W. Eighth Street and the bike trail in Perry.
Vaughn was transported to a Des Moines hospital by MercyOne air ambulance. His condition is unknown at this hour.
A suspect in the shooting was detained by law enforcement about 7 a.m. after officers deployed “multiple Tasers,” according to public safety radio traffic.

Iowa State Patrol Troopers and Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs were seen investigating an open field near W. Eighth and Paul streets about 7:30 a.m.
