August 25, 2017

  • A caller reported the glass in the bus shelter at W. Eighth and Warford streets was broken out. An officer responded.
  • Andy Alejandro Perez, 29, of Des Moines was issued a citation for operating without a valid driver’s license.
  • A caller reported “two young calves on the roadway.” The Boone County Sheriff’s office was notified.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said he “believes his wife is trying to take his car to give to someone else.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said two kittens were lost.
  • Jose Ortiz of 805 William St., Perry, was issued a citation for first-offense dog at large.
  • A 13-year-old boy from Perry was arrested on a charge of theft.
  • A caller said “a beam had fallen on a 25-year-old’s leg” and “had broken through the skin” so that “you can see his bone.” The Perry First Responders and Dallas County EMS were paged.
  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department was “flagged down by a civilian” with a 5-year-old boy who got off his school bus too soon. The child was transported to the Perry Elementary School and reunited with his father.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said his “car trailer was stolen sometime in the past two weeks.”
  • Suzanne Marie Hays of 1209 W. Second St., Perry, was issued a citation for first-offense dog at large.
  • A caller said “his friend’s son had been bitten on his shoulder by a dog.” An officer responded and the Dallas County EMS was paged. The 9-year-old child was transported to the Dallas County Hospital in a private vehicle. The dog is “under quarantine” at a local animal clinic.
  • A caller reported what “sounded like eight rapid pistol shots” fired nearby. Officers responded but did not find the source of the sounds.
  • A caller reported a stolen cell phone. An officer responded.
  • Laurann Joyce Perry, 20, 2105 W. Third St., Perry, was arrested on a charge of first-offense possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • A caller said his neighbors were “being loud.” An officer responded.

August 26, 2017

  • A caller reported “a bat flying around in his living room.” The caller said “he had not been bitten but was scared.” An officer responded but did not find the bat.
  • Kyle Casey Willis, 21, 1606 W. Third St., Perry, was arrested on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.
  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department was informed by a Perry resident about “issues happening at the dog park.” The officer told the resident that “it is best to call the station when things are happening so that an officer can respond and work through the issues.”
  • Two officers of the Perry Police Department “escorted the parade for the Latino Festival from 12th and Willis to downtown.”
  • A caller said “someone broke out her car window.” An officer responded.
  • A caller “reported really loud music coming from” a nearby residence. Officers responded and explained the city noise ordinance, and the “music was turned down.”
  • A caller said he “caught a cat in a trap.” An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A caller said “she believes someone did something to her vehicle.” The caller said “yesterday it was fine,” but “it is running rough today.” An officer responded and found “the vehicle was now running fine” and had “no issues.”
  • A caller asked whether an officer with the Perry Police Department would “assist him with caring for an owl.” Officers responded.
  • A caller said someone “was digging and hit a gas line.” The caller “said a lot of gas is leaking” from the “very strong odor of it.” Officers responded and the Perry Volunteer Fire Department was paged. The utility company was notified.
  • A caller said he was threatened by a dog while riding his bicycle. The caller said “a person with two dogs was on the bike trail,” and “one of the dogs tried to bite him.” The caller said the “dog did not have a leash,” and “the owner didn’t say anything about it.” An officer responded.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said “she was just groped by five black men at” a local retail store. The woman said “she asked them to step back, and they did not.” An officer responded and “reviewed the videos. The evidence on there was that nothing occurred.”
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said “her daughter” was “just assaulted by” someone “they have a no-contact order against.” An officer responded.
  • Joe Eujean Tully, 48, 201 S.E. 29th Court, Des Moines, was arrested on charges of driving under suspension, possession of marijuana and carrying-weapons violation.
  • A caller said her dog was lost. The caller later called and said her dog was found.
  • A caller said “she has a bat on her front porch and would like an officer to help get it out.” The caller later called and said “someone had helped her get the bat out.”
  • A caller said “there was a man near the back of her house that had a flashlight and was throwing metal.” An officer responded and found someone “just doing work outside. All okay.”

August 27, 2017

  • A caller reported “people were being loud” outside a local restaurant. The caller said “it is an ongoing issue.” An officer responded, “met with staff and advised them of the complaint” and “also asked they turn the music down.”
  • A caller said “she was woken up by someone pounding at her door.” The caller said “her dog is still barking so she believes they may still be outside.” The caller said she “did not look out her widnow, nor did she want to.” Officers responded but did not find anyone in the vicinity.
  • A caller “reported a few calves on the roadway on the first curve north of Perry.” The Boone County Sheriff’s office was notified.
  • A caller said “two teens are left without supervision most of the time, and they end up being loud and throwing parties while the parents are away.” The caller said she “wants to know what she can do.” An officer responded.
  • A caller reported credit card fraud. An officer responded.
  • A caller said a dog “was running at large, and he caught it.” The caller called again and said “he walked around with the dog and found the owner.”
  • A caller said “the rear plate to her vehicle is missing.” The caller said she “will go get plates tomorrow but wanted to call and report it.”
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a cell phone he found. An officer responded, and “the phone was returned to the owner.”
  • A caller said “she spotted” a man “looking through her window. As soon as she came out, he took off running.” Officers responded but did not find the peeper.
  • A caller said “her son’s bike was stolen sometime overnight.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “there were two people fighting” at a residence. Officers responded.
  • A caller said her cell phone was stolen. An officer responded.
  • A caller said her mother “had a bird at her house and needed help catching it.” An officer responded and assisted in “removing the bat from the residence.”
  • A caller said his safe was missing. An officer responded.

August 28, 2017

  • A caller said someone “had been bitten by her dog.” An officer responded and made contact with the victim at the Dallas County Hospital. The victim said “it was her own dog that bit her” when “her dog and her mother’s dog got into a fight.” She said her dog “was current on all of its shots, and she stated the dog has become more aggressive lately, and she was thinking of having it put down.”
  • A caller said her vehicle “had been broken into.” An officer responded.
  • Edwain Escalante33, 1007 Dewey Ave., #7, Perry, was issued a citation for no insurance.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. The caller said “it was a female dog that has been running at large for the past five days.” An officer responded but did not find the dog.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
