December 6, 2017

  • A Perry Community School District bus driver reported a school bus violation. The driver said a motorist “did stop but then drove through while the arm was still out.” An officer responded.
  • A caller “reported a white pit bull with an enlarged testicle that could hardly walk wandered into her friend’s yard. Before her friend could make contact with someone,” several people “came over and claimed the dog was theirs.” The caller was “concerned about the wellbeing of the animal.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said someone “has been harassing her.” An officer responded and determined there was “no harassment.”
  • A caller said “she had property” in a building, and the owner of the building “is refusing to give the property back.” An officer responded and advised the “best option was to contact her attorney.”
  • A caller said that “while driving” she “noticed a purse setting on the back of” a vehicle. An officer responded, “located the purse,” and “was able to locate the owner of the purse inside a home in the area.”

December 7, 2017

  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with “a live bat” he “caught in his home.” An officer responded, “took the container outside and released the bat.”
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded and “located the dog but was not able to catch it.”
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. in order to “report her son” as “a runaway.” An officer responded and with the “paperwork completed,” the “juvenile” was entered into the Iowa National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
  • A caller said he saw a man “jump from” a vehicle in the area of Iowa Highway 141 and First Avenue. The caller said “the female driver then started following” the jumping man “in the vehicle.” An officer responded and located the vehicle and the female driver but found “no male in the area.”
  • A caller said he “believed someone is entering the building at night and moving things around.” The caller said “the locks have been changed, and they are unaware of anyone else having a key.” The caller asked for extra patrol of the building. An officer responded.
  • A caller reported “an abandoned bike in his front yard.” An officer responded and transported the bicycle to the shed.
  • A caller said “her parents are fighting,” and “her step-dad is throwing things.” Officers responded.

December 8, 2017

  • Justin Allan Schmidt, 33, 406 Cartwright St., Rippey, was arrested on a charge of driving under suspension.
  • A caller said “he hit a deer and was right outside of our city limits.” The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was notified.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
