Perry Police Report July 3

June 30, 2017

  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. said said someone stole $45 from her unlocked vehicle. An officer responded.
  • A caller from the Perry High School “reported windows to the KDLS press box have been busted out.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said she “purchased tires” from a local shop “but has not paid for them.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said she caught a cat running at large. An officer responded, but the cat “escaped from the porch.”
  • A caller said she went outside to pay for a delivered pizza and found her neighbors already paid for the pizza and had it  in their possession. Officers responded and made contact with the delivery person, who said “she was attacked by the neighbor’s chihuahua that escaped from their window.” She “said she ran away, and she thought the money bag fell on the grass.” The money bag was found in the delivery vehicle. The disposition of the disputed pizza was uncertain.
  • A caller said he caught a dog running at large. The caller said “he has it in his truck,” and “the dog growled at him,” and so he “would like an officer to hurry.” An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A caller said she “had some questions regarding a dog bite that occurred the night before.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “her daughter’s ex-boyfriend” “keeps text messaging her and other family members.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “there were people discharging fireworks.” An officer responded.
  • Katie Mendenhall of 335 Willis Ave., Perry, was issued a citation for first-offense dog at large.
  • A caller reported “a suspicious white male carrying a bat with no shirt on.” An officer responded but did not find the suspicious person.
  • A caller said she “bought a vehicle from” a local dealer “with the agreement that they would fix whatever was causing the check-engine light to come on.” An officer responded and “advised the caller to gather the appropriate documents and contact the civil division at Dallas County for possible resolution.”
  • A caller said an ATM machine was malfunctioning. The caller also said “there was a suspicious vehicle in front of her that could be linked to the malfunction.” An officer responded and “assisted in getting the caller in touch with a bank person regarding her not getting money due to the money slot not opening.”
  • A caller said her dog “was playing with some puppies” at the Perry Dog Park “and began to bite them out of nowhere.” She said “the puppies seem to be bleeding but are still alive.” An officer responded and learned “the dogs were playing, licking each other, and the smaller one appeared to get a cut on the mouth.” The officer found “no malicious intent on either side.”
  • A caller said “there were small children shooting off fireworks.” An officer responded but did not find the violators.
  • A caller said children “were shooting off fireworks.” An officer responded but did not find the violators.
  • A caller said “her grandchild accidentally dialed 911” from Woodward. The Woodward Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff’s office were notified.
  • A caller reported “fireworks near her residence.” An officer responded and found it to be “just a lot of rain, lightning and a little thunder.”
  • A caller reported “fireworks being discharged near her residence.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said someone was “at the residence and won’t leave.” The caller said the unwelcome person “has no weapons but has been drinking all day.” An officer responded.

July 1, 2017

  • A caller said he was at a local tavern, and “the employee won;t give him back his credit card.” The caller said he “went to cash out his bill, and they won’t do it.” An officer responded.
  • A caller asked whether an officer of the Perry Police Department would “speak with a couple of kids that tried to steal her son’s bike.” An officer responded and found the “bike had already been returned to the owner.” The officer “spoke with the kids about the issue.”
  • A caller said “she had her purse stolen from her vehicle.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “the back license plate of her vehicle was stolen sometime within the last week.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “people were shooting off some large fireworks.” An officer responded and distributed information.
  • A caller said “there were fireworks near her residence.” An officer responded and determined “where they were shooting the fireworks off was out of city limits.”
  • A caller reported a barking dog. An officer responded and “hears dogs everywhere due to the fireworks.”
  • A caller said “she can’t sleep due to the party going on at the armory.” An officer responded, made contact with the partiers and “advised them to turn it down.”
  • A caller said “there are a lot of fireworks going off.” An officer responded and made contact with the violator and “advised him to not be setting them off anymore.”
  • A caller said “there is someone shooting off fireworks south of her residence.” An officer responded but did not find the violators.

July 2, 2017

  • A caller said “someone had gone through her truck,” and she “doesn’t believe anything but some change was stolen.” An officer responded.
  • Adam Dale Mendez, 19, 2902 Iowa St., #3, Perry, was arrested on a charge of first-offense public intoxication.
  • A caller said “someone went through their vehicle last night,” and the “person took some stuff out of their glovebox.” The caller said “he didn’t want an officer to respond.” An incident report was filed.
  • A caller said “someone purposely cut her flowers.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “someone was in her unlocked vehicle last night,” and “only change was taken.”
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. Officers responded but did not find the dog.
  • A caller said someone “had yelled insults across the street.” Officers responded.
  • A caller said “someone has gotten into her vehicle and taken a charger, sunglasses and a few other things.” An officer responded.
  • A caller reported “a male acting strangely on her property.” The caller said “he might be under the influence of drugs. He has removed his shirt.” Officers responded.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded but did not find the dog.
  • A caller reported loud music from a neighboring residence. An officer responded and issued “a verbal warning regarding the noise.”
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. The caller said the animal “doesn’t like males apparently.” An officer responded but did not find the dog.
  • A caller reported “three boys loitering.” An officer responded and told the children to move along.
  • A caller reported “fireworks being set off.” An officer responded and distributed information.
  • A caller said she heard “someone yell for help and maybe fire.” Officers responded and found “no one is in trouble and no fire.”
  • A caller “reported fireworks being shot off.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “fireworks were being set off.” An officer responded but did not find the violators.
  • A caller said “fireworks were being set off.” An officer responded, “issued a verbal warning and explained” the law.
  • A caller “reported her neighbors were shooting off fireworks.” An officer responded and “provided city information on rules.”
  • A caller “reported fireworks.” An officer responded.
  • A caller “reported a loud party going on.” Officers responded.
  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department “was approached by a gentleman who advised he has been following a juvenile male who has been breaking into vehicles.” The officer responded.
  • A caller said she witnessed an assault. An officer responded and found a “verbal argument between the tow parties had occurred” but “no assault.”
  • A caller said he was “approached by a possibly intoxicated white male in his 50s.” Officers responded and made contact with someone who said “he was staying at a residence nearby. The officers advised him that would be the best thing to do.”
  • A caller reported “a large sign in the middle of Willis.” An officer responded and “moved the sign to the side of the road.” The Perry Public Works Department was notified.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

  1. Fireworks, fireworks, fireworks! Please! Be considerate of your neighbors and their pets. Be reminded just how much stress exploding fireworks induces with dementia patients and veterans with PTSD. Fireworks are similar to public smoking. Your rights end where another person’s nose begins.

    Come on now. Just how problematic is the occasional stray cat or escaped dog? Please. Don’t bother the cops with these complaints unless these animals are particularly problematic or if it’s your pet that is missing.

    Seems to me there are lots of folks having their vehicles ransacked. Either remove your valuables from the car or at least keep them out of sight. Yes, I understand some of you may need to leave your windows open during the summer. If that’s the case, be absolutely sure to not leave anything out in your vehicle you will miss. I don’t really want to get into blaming the victim, but it’s your responsibility to see to your own security in this regard.
