Perry Police Report June 13

June 12, 2018

  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A caller from the Perry branch of the U.S. Postal Service said “her carrier” was “chased by a pit bull loose in the area.” An officer responded, made contact with the owner of the dog and “advised her of the leash laws.”
  • A caller from the Iowa Department of Transportation said a man “may be shopping around for a passing inspection” of a vehicle “he has deemed too expensive to repair.” The caller said the man “was denied in Nevada.” An officer responded, and an “email was sent to officers who complete vehicle inspections and dispatchers.”
  • A caller asked “how to get his picture and some information taken off the internet.” An officer responded and “advised him to contact the agency where the information trail started.”
  • A caller reported a man on a scooter “on Willis Avenue, backing up traffic several cars deep.” An officer responded, made contact with the man on the scooter and discussed “this ongoing problem.” The man was “asked that he stay to the side of the roadway if the sidewalks were not in a condition to ride on.” The officer said “that we are concerned for his saftey.”
  • A caller requested a welfare check in what was determined to be a child-custody dispute. An officer responded and explained “that a welfare check was only to check on someone’s health or safety” and did not extend to “living conditions.”
  • A caller said she lost her keys.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded but did not find the dog.
  • A caller said her cat was lost.
  • A caller said “she received several calls today from someone who said they were with the IRS.” The calls were determined to be scam phone calls.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and asked to speak with an officer about identity theft. An officer responded.
  • The Perry Police Department School Resource Officer “taught a class to Boy Scouts.”
  • A caller said she just saw someone enter a vacant house across the street with a flashlight. Officers responded.
  • A caller said “he observed a man beating on a door.” Officers responded and found the homeowner “hiding in the basement bathroom, claiming to be fixing a lever.” The man said “he didn’t have keys and tried to knock in the door.” The officers explained to the man that “he cannot be charged with breaking into his own property.” The officers also explained to the man the importance of “complying with officers when asked.”
  • A caller said “her kid’s father” was “at her parents’ house,” and the caller “did not want him to be there” because he “has been drinking.” Officers responded.

June 13

  • A caller said “there was water that was overflowing from the water plant’s reservoir.”

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
