May 16, 2018

  • A caller said her foster dog was lost. The caller called again and said her foster dog was found.
  • A caller asked whether an officer from the Perry Police Department would make a welfare check on his daughter. An officer responded.
  • A caller said “she has received several calls from someone who says they are with the IRS.” An officer responded, confirmed the calls were a phone scam and advised the caller to “hang up on the caller.”
  • A caller said “a raccoon in the street in front of her residence” was “acting strange” and “attempting to go into the sewer.” An officer responded.
  • A caller reported two suspicious people were “standing in front of a garage.” Officers responded but did not find the suspicious people.
  • A caller reported “debris in the roadway of Iowa Highway 141.” The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was notified.
  • A caller asked whether an officer from the Perry Police Department would “stand by while she picks up her kids from her mother.” An officer responded and stood by.

May 17, 2018

  • A caller from a local retail store said “he was changing the garbage in the restroom” and “found a machete.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “they had received two similar type calls from people claiming to be the IRS.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said he “was upset becaue he hurt his foot.”
  • Scotty Lee Hayes, 27, 1209 W. Second St., Perry, was arrested on a charge of domestic abuse-simple assault.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a dog she caught runing at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A caller said “he observed a Perry chool bus run a red light in the Grimes area.” The caller said “the bus was headed toward Perry.” The Perry Community School District Transportation Department was notified.
  • A caller said “she is being harassed by her ex-boyfriend’s girlfriend.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “they could hear someone in their basement.” A caller said “that the basement door was open,” and they “can hear” someone “making a lot of noise.” Officers responded, “cleared the entire house and did not locate anyone inside the home.” The officers found “no evidence of anyone breaking into the home.”

May 18, 2018

  • Tod Lynn Rickels, 57, 311 Warford St., Perry, was arrested on charges of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and second-offense trespass.
  • A caller said “she received a phone call of kids playing a guitar on Seventh and Willis.” An officer was advised.
  • A caller said he lost his cell phone.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
