Seven score and 10 years of Perry growth -- from rails to trails -- will celebrate itself July 5-7 during the Perry Sesquicentennial Celebration.

Bluejay blue flew over the Perry welcome sign on Iowa Highway 141 Monday when the flag of the Perry Community School District athletics was raised by city workers.

The emblem of Bluejay and Jayette pride took its place alongside the U.S. flag and the Iowa flag in the three-pole monument, recently restored after a lightning strike damaged the poles and floodlights.

In honor of the 150th anniversary of Perry’s founding in 1869, the Perry City Council at its June 3 meeting approved a resolution authorizing the city’s sponsorship of the Perry Sesquicentennial Celebration July 5-7.
