Perry's 2018 prom officially began Saturday with the Grand March at the Perry Performing Arts Center. Couples gathered in the choir room before strolling across the stage. Ready for a memorable evening are, from left, Katelyn Saldano and Elmer Perez, Alexis Garrido and Magley Orellana, Rashon Ivory and Jackie Castaneda, and Stephanie Garcia and Anthony Aragon.

Adding to the fun atmosphere of the traditional prom this year is the theme for the Perry event “Evening at the Carnival.”

The annual festivities officially began at 5 p.m. with the Grand March at the Perry Performing Arts Center, though most couples had already endured an hour or more of family photography, to say nothing of the time the young ladies and gentlemen clearly devoted to their preparations.

The dinner and dance is currently underway at the Lake Panorama Conference Center. Beginning at 7:15 p.m., the formal portion of the evening will end at 11:30 p.m. Couples will then have an hour to change into casual wear and return to Perry High School, where After Prom will be held form 12:30-4 a.m.

Carnival games and prizes will be part of the fun, as will laser tag, which will be held in the Perry Middle School gym.

The featured performer will be long-time Iowa comedy fixture Willie Farrell, who will bring his quick wit and audience-participation themed talents to PHS.

In keeping with the Carnival theme, After Prom food will include walking tacos, corn dogs, pretzels, popcorn and spin-art caramel apples.
